Maya's memories of highschool are admittedly a bit fuzzy, but she does recall being a bit shy about performing at first. Eventually though, she couldn't hold out against the pull of music and snuck her way into the back row of the choir.

At home, she may have driven her parents a bit crazy with the incessant singing. So, with music and performance being irresistible to her, it's no wonder that she ended up working them into a career. Maya majored in theatre at NYU, which allowed her to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. She's been on stage here in Cayman, in the Caribbean and the States and got to play the role of Andrea's (Zoe Saldana) mother in Frank E. Flowers' movie "Haven". Not sure why no Academy Award yet, though...
